Cookies (4/7)

What I like most about my peanut butter cookies is their simplicity and the memories involved with them. The cookies are too simple to be messed up and no matter what, they will end up being delicious, so long as you do not have the cooking skills of an unsupervised toddler.

If you are going to make these in the oven like any other normal person you will need :

1 1/4 Cups of Flour

A good-sized pinch of salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 Cup of shortening ( or butter, but I suggest shortening)

1/2 Cup of peanut butter (but a little more won’t hurt….)

1/2 Cup of white sugar

1/2 Cup of packed light brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon of vanilla

1 egg

1.) First you need your sugar.

2.) Now, add the shortening, brown sugar, egg and vanilla in whatever order you feel the need to add them in. These cookies are so simple you will not mess it up by adding the vanilla before the egg.

3.) Next, add the most important ingredient……(drum roll)….. the Peanut Butter!

4.) And then the flour mixture. This will consist of the flour, baking soda and powder and the salt. Typically you should add it slowly, but if you decide to add it all at once, nobody will ever know the difference, so add away.

5.) Keep stirring. Unless you are normal and are using an electric mixer of some sort.

6.) You will now need balls of dough that are the size of a delicious yet intimidating bite of dough. Although you can make them whatever size you want and it won’t change the taste one bit.

7.) Now comes the easy part. Put the balls on greased cookie sheets.

8.) Next is the most controversial part. Making the pattern on the top of the cookies with the fork tines. I usually dip the fork in water and then sugar. Some people use flour and other people only use water and sprinkle sugar on later. However, it is important that you don’t press to hard with the fork or else the edges of the cookies will split terribly.

9.) Now for the cooking. If you haven’t preheated the oven to 375 yet you should probably do that now. Oh, and don’t forget to take the pans out first. If the oven isn’t preheated yet, you can go ahead and put the cookies in any way and they will taste just as good. You should cook them for about 10 or 12 minutes, more or less depending on the size of the cookie.

Now, once you take them out of the oven or microwave, without burning yourself hopefully, you will have the best cookies known to man. They are pretty good with chocolate chips in them and adding Nutella is pretty tasty too.

Following these guidelines will give you delicious cookies. However, throwing together all the ingredients in whichever order you see fit will also give you delicious cookies. So, be creative and make them however the heck you want to, that’s just one thing that gives the cookies their unique personalities.
