What Every Good Dish Needs. (1/26)

I believe that one of the most intriguing aspects of food is being able to create any dish I find pleasing with it. I like that I can experiment with making different dishes and make them my own. I find the art  of food, and cooking it, to be a personal experience. I think of it as a personal experience because I find that when I want food, I want to be the one to cook it. This is because I like to be able to cook my foods accordingly to what I like and what I think interests me the most.

Because I like to cook my own foods, I want only the most known ingredients and I want them to be as natural as possible. To accommodate to these needs, when I cook, I use only meat, fruit, and vegetables from the local farm I work at. This means that I know where the food was grown, how it was treated, and I am assured that it will not be a bunch of processed nonsense.

When I cook food, I like it to be simplistic. I like that a couple of ingredients made well with spices and such can be so flavorful. This being said, I like foods that bring new flavors to the dish. I like the foods that, by themselves, stand out for an interesting different taste. I feel that food becomes more intriguing when it can be so simplistic, yet have a variety of flavors and colors. Colors are important to food too. Not the artificial nasty ones, but natural colors. Like a bit of red or orange pepper, or some red (but actually purple) onion. I believe food should be as pleasing to the eye as it is to your taste buds.

This isn’t to say that I don’t like more complex, not colored food, I just feel that food does not need to be as complicated and time consuming to make. I will forever, love to cook my own natural simple dishes that suit my taste for the food and for the presentation of the food.

I think it’s really cool that you have the opportunity to know exactly where your food comes from. It must make it a lot easier to enjoy that way. I also agree that the art of simple food can be quite fantastic.

Knowing where your food comes from is key. So few people actually make the mental connection between the food they eat and process of growing and harvesting that food. We are terribly far removed from our ecological core. Being able to control what goes into your food from the very beginning of the process definitely adds something to the experience.
